Responsive Cities – Citizen Engagement

Oct 22 at 6–9pm
AIA New York l Center for Architecture, 536 LaGuardia Pl, New York, NY 10012
Organized by Consulate General of Switzerland

Organized by Consulate General of Switzerland in New York in collaboration with the AIA Technology Committee, Singapore-ETH Centre, ETH Future Cities Laboratory, Cooling Singapore, and ETH Zurich.

Responsive Cities are the new frontier in human settlement. Responsive Cities engage residents and prospective citizens from the very beginning in the planning and management of their habitat, based on Smart City technologies. This is made possible by taking advantage of new and abundant forms of data, new ways of harnessing data sets, new sensing technologies, behavior models and new possibilities for interaction among people, communities and their physical environments. How can data help cities create inclusive physical environments for its residents? How do disciplines ranging from Complexity Science and Cognitive Psychology, to Urban Design and Policy Making converge to address city challenges? We will hear from various speakers from NYC and Singapore - researchers, city planners, urban designers - about current initiatives to involve citizens in the design of Responsive Cities in Asia and the US. Moderated by Zachary Edelson, Digital Content Strategist, Metropolis Magazine.

Speakers:

  • Fabien Clavier, Project Coordinator for Big Data-informed Urban Design and Governance, Future Cities Laboratory, Singapore-ETH Centre, Singapore
  • Kubi Ackerman, Director, Future City Lab, Museum of the City of New York
  • Mike Aziz, Director of Urban Design, Cooper Robertson
