World Habitat Day
United Nations Headquarters New York City, 405 East 42nd Street, New York, NY, 10017
The United Nations has designated the first Monday of October of every year as World Habitat Day. The purpose of World Habitat Day is to reflect on the state of our towns and cities, and on the basic right of all to adequate shelter. It is also intended to remind the world that we all have the power and the responsibility to shape the future of our cities and towns. The theme for World Habitat Day 2018 is Municipal Solid Waste Management. To broaden the discussion on best practices as well as the main challenges regarding waste management both around the world and in New York City, the United Nations will be hosting a panel of representatives from the government, nonprofit, and private sector to provide their insight. They will be focusing on food waste management.
