The Future of Governors Island
Center for Architecture, 536 LaGuardia Place, New York, NY 10012
Michael Samuelian, President & CEO of the Trust for Governors Island, in conversation with Amy Plitt, Editor, Curbed NY.
A former military base virtually unknown to New Yorkers for nearly two centuries, Governors Island has been activated into a beloved seasonal destination for recreation, arts, culture, learning and play with a new, resilient-designed park overlooking the Harbor. With a park nearly complete and destination appeal, the Island is moving into the next chapter of it’s transformation, with the activation of 1.5M square feet of historic buildings, and a new planning framework for development of up to 4.5M square feet of new education, research and cultural facilities on the Island’s Southern half.
Join Michael Samuelian, President of the Trust for Governors Island and Amy Plitt, Editor of Curbed NY, for a conversation about the future of this unique resource for the City and the vision for a year-round, 24/7 Governors Island.
